LETTER: GROSS, GROW, KIMBERLEY AND PRENDERGAST FORM CAPABLE AT-LARGE SLATE
Published Oct. 30, 2025 | Gloucester Daily Times
To the editor:
This year’s City Council at-large race offers Gloucester voters the opportunity to choose thoughtful, informed leadership over distraction and division. With four open seats and six candidates, incumbents Tony Gross and Jason Grow, together with Hannah Kimberley and Barnaby Prendergast, form a strong, capable at-large slate.
These four share a grounded understanding of the issues the council actually has authority over: zoning reform to expand housing options, responsible budgeting for schools and infrastructure, and economic growth that supports local businesses while preserving Gloucester’s character. They are listeners and collaborators who bring experience, perspective, and the capacity to pursue practical solutions rather than headlines or controversy.
Gloucester needs steady, community-focused leaders who solve problems and bring people together, not those who oppose for opposition’s sake. Tony, Jason, Hannah, and Barnaby embody the competence and cooperation that will keep Gloucester moving forward. Please join me in voting for these candidates Nov. 4.

LETTER: HANNAH KIMBERLEY FOR COUNCILOR AT-LARGE

To the editor:
I’ve known Hannah Kimberley, candidate for councilor at-large, for many years. She is an organized person who follows up on everything that’s needed, and is able to make hard decisions, an excellent and helpful quality for a member of Gloucester’s City Council.
We all have four votes for the councilor at-Large candidates, please consider casting one of them for Hannah Kimberley.

LETTER: FOR TEAM GROSS, GROW, KIMBERLEY, PRENDERGAST
Published Oct. 24, 2025 | Gloucester Daily Times
To the editor:
In these tumultuous times, we are fortunate to have so many of Gloucester’s “Finest Kind” stepping up to run for office. That said, I am confident that the following candidates for at-large councilor are the best choices for the city’s needs both as individuals and as a team.
First up is Tony Gross, our current and extremely effective City Council president. He served many years on the School Committee and the Waterways Board prior to being on the council, and that’s just for starters. A commercial fisherman by trade, he has gained experience in other challenging jobs such as construction and wastewater treatment and has volunteered for countless causes. I first met Tony when we both participated in the creation of the City’s Comprehensive Plan 2001. He’s been doing his part to implement its best features ever since. He is what many would call the “salt of the Earth.”
Next in seniority and good governing experience is Jason Grow, who has served multiple terms on the City Council and chaired its Planning and Development Committee. He has played a leading role in addressing Gloucester’s growing housing crisis, and been mindful of the fact that there are many valid viewpoints to reconcile. As a professional photographer, he sees the big picture and the fine detail. He sees character, and his work reflects his love for the people of Gloucester. This is why I endorsed Jason in the last election and do so again now.
As a civic leader, educator, and published author, Hannah Kimberley brings decades of experience in public service and community organizing to her campaign. She has always enjoyed helping people “find their voice.” She currently volunteers as president of the League of Women Voters of Cape Ann, vice chair of the Gloucester Human Rights Commission, a member of Housing 4 All Gloucester, and co-founder of Women’s Equality Cape Ann (WECANN). These choices all make it clear that she prioritizes a thriving democracy that works for everyone.
Barnaby Prendergast’s occupation was recently described as “handyman.” This might better be “Handy Man” at the least. His resume includes professional experience in union negotiation, managing global IT operations and negotiating complex commercial agreements in multiple countries. Locally, he has volunteered in our schools as a classroom parent-aide and librarian, worked as a sternman on local fishing vessels, and more. When Barnaby applied to serve on Gloucester’s Clean City Commission, it was a pleasure for me personally to write a letter of recommendation. I emphasized how much he had already been working quietly, tirelessly and effectively at keeping our city clean and the environment healthy, and he’d already made a point of learning the ropes in city government.
These candidates can provide a dynamic blend of seasoned leadership and new energy, historical memory and fresh perspectives and each has more than earned my vote.

LETTER: KIMBERLEY WHAT’S NEEDED ON COUNCIL
Published Oct. 18, 2025 | Gloucester Daily Times
To the editor:
I’ve known Hannah Kimberley for well over a decade now, and throughout that time I’ve come to know her as a genuinely good human being, thoughtful, compassionate, and deeply committed to making the world around her better.
Hannah is a passionate educator who not only inspires others to learn but also maintains her own lifelong curiosity and drive to understand complex issues. She listens carefully, thinks critically, and approaches every challenge with empathy and intellect. Those qualities make her not only a great teacher and humanitarian but exactly the kind of person we need serving on our City Council.
Hannah’s ability to comprehend complicated issues, her integrity, and her openness to diverse perspectives will make her a tremendous asset to Gloucester’s leadership. I have every confidence she will bring wisdom, collaboration, and heart to the work of governing.
Please join me in voting for Hannah Kimberley for councilor at-large this election day, Nov. 4.

LETTER: KIMBERLEY, PRENDERGAST FOR COUNCILORS AT-LARGE
Published Oct. 16, 2025 | Gloucester Daily Times
To the editor:
I’d like to recommend a vote for new candidates Hannah Kimberley and Barnaby Prendergast for city councilor at-large. Both have worked hard to become thoroughly informed and engaged with residents about housing issues.
If you’d like to learn more about their thoughts on housing issues (and others’ who responded), you can find them at the Housing 4 All Gloucester website, housing4allgloucester.org, under “candidate survey.”

LETTER: EX-MAYOR BACKING KIMBERLEY
Published Oct. 16, 2025 | Gloucester Daily Times
To the editor:
I’ve worked with Hannah Kimberley on different things over the past decade, and I can tell you this: she shows up, she listens, and she gets things done.
When I served as mayor, I appointed Hannah to the Gloucester Human Rights Commission because I knew she would be committed to protecting the human rights of every resident of Gloucester, and she has been. She is the kind of person who listens and treats people with respect.
Hannah is also a veteran teacher who believes deeply that all children, no matter their background, have the right to a quality education. She has spent her career helping young people find their voices, and she brings that same sense of purpose to public service.
Hannah understands that our working waterfront and tourism can coexist. We have seen how it works, and she will continue to help Gloucester keep moving forward. She knows that we can honor our fishing heritage while embracing new opportunities in tourism, the arts, and sustainable industry.
As a published historical author, Hannah also understands the importance of preserving Gloucester’s history, the kind of history you cannot simply find on Google. She knows that keeping our history intact helps create a shared connection to the past and fosters a sense of belonging and pride among us all.
Hannah also brings deep understanding and empathy for our seniors, recognizing the challenges they face, from health care access to affordable housing, and valuing the wisdom and strength they bring to our community.
The fact is, we can continue to move Gloucester forward, but only if we do it together with the voice of the people leading the way. I know Hannah will bring our voices with her to City Hall. She has the compassion, intelligence, and integrity that Gloucester deserves.
That is why I am proud to endorse Hannah Kimberley for city councilor at-large.
